Why I joined:
At the time, it was the thing to do. Now, I would join because it is still the right thing to do. Seriously, MCMS is the true voice of physicians. But MCMS also gave me a voice as a physician. I became involved with MCMS when there were critical issues confronting physicians. A town meeting allowed my point of view to be heard. Many people have a problem with “organized medicine” but physicians need to be organized.
Why support MCMS?
For the above. Years ago, Excellus suggested that we would be better off breaking into smaller “pods” of physicians to work with the insurer. Not!! All that would do would be to weaken our voice. As it is, with employed physicians being represented by their systems, the number of independent physicians has decreased. We need MCMS more now than ever.
What do you think is the most valuable benefit or service offered by MCMS?
The staff. Not just Nancy, but all the staff are key to helping physicians with diverse problems.
Advocacy. MCMS, along with MSSNY, represents the best interests of physicians in Monroe County. There are certainly many other benefits that we get thru MCMS, but the voice that it gives us is by far the most valuable benefit that I have derived as a member of MCMS.
What has MCMS done for you?
It has given me a voice. It represents my interests. And, MCMS has given me a chance to participate in the shaping of the future of medicine in Monroe County.
