Topics to include:
Dr. McGraw will be discussing how to illuminate resources and do screenings for e-cigarette use and vaping.
Dr. Handa will be discussing vaping devices, prevalence, and current laws on this topic.
“ There is lots of research being conducted in the field, and there are national guidelines and recommendations available, but the knowledge and awareness in our community about the harms of vaping is perilously low. It is currently not part of the standardized questionnaire in most hospitals and clinics and there is a false sense of its benign nature, in-spite of plenty of evidence otherwise. In order to energize the grassroots effort against vaping we have created an Anti-Vaping Advocacy group (AVAG) with Pediatric residents at University at Buffalo as part of that effort. Our next steps include engaging the school systems in adopting standardized teaching curriculums about vaping and creating a trove of succinct algorithms with local referral systems for the pediatricians and psychiatrists/ substance abuse disorder clinics in the community.” - Dr. Handa
