    Stand up to denials and win! This class will explain the provider’s rights and responsibilities when appealing claim denials. Receive expert guidance to recoup dollars rightfully due to the provider. The instructor will address questions and provide tools to help billing staff successfully handle appeals, refunds and recoupment requests. Whether the issue is inadequate payment, denial or rejection, participants will return to the office well-equipped to handle the toughest denials.

    One of 10 patients has some form of hearing loss. Findings from a recent survey of 100+ persons with hearing loss listed communication with their provider as one of their 9 health priorities.  Healthy Living with Hearing Loss (HL2) partner of the Rochester Research Prevention Center developed Communication Strategies Guide for telephone calls. In addition electronic devices will be described to supplement hearing aids and cues to better identify hearing loss will be offered.  

    In this program you will learn: 

    • How to use different communication strategies with patients who have hearing loss, including telephone communication

    • How to use devices when hearing aids are not enough

    • Awareness of the health priorities of patients with hearing loss to better care for them


    Presenters include:

    Dr. Bess Herbert is a family physician with hearing loss acquired in infancy.  She has severe to profound hearing loss in her right ear and wears a hearing aid.  She has no useable hearing in her left ear.  Originally from Soviet Union Republic, Latvia, she immigrated to Rochester, NY in 1990. She completed her family medicine residency at Forbes Family Practice Residency after finishing University of Rochester School of Medicine. Currently, she is working at Huther Doyle Chemical Dependency Clinic,  Anthony Jordan Health Primary care clinic and Anthony Jordan Health Medication Assisted Treatment clinic.

    Daniel Brooks was was born with a severe to profound hearing loss and was not diagnosed until he was almost four (4) years of age.  In early childhood, Daniel was received therapy in an effort to be mainstreamed and ultimately live a “normal” life in the hearing world.  With much support of his parents and others he graduated from S.U.N.Y at Buffalo with a Bachelor’s of Arts in 1996.  Throughout life he has learned how to use various assistive devices, public assistance, trial & error and other techniques to navigate everyday life. Daniel is the President of Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) Rochester Chapter and the Co-Chair of Healthy Living with Hearing Loss (HL2).  His goal is to provide research, support, education and advocacy on the topic of hearing loss.

MCMS Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation requests must be sent to Ronaele King via e-mail with “Cancellation Request” in the subject line. Correspondence must include event title, date and time, registrant’s name, and payee’s contact information. If cancellation notice is provided at least 7 days prior to the scheduled event, a refund may be requested, minus a 20% processing fee.  If cancellation notice is provided at least 1 day prior to the scheduled event, a credit voucher will be issued for the full amount paid that may be used by anyone in the practice within one year of the original event date.
